By 8.30 am on a warm sunny morning all our entrants had arrived except Nick Taylor. There’s a surprise! Not to worry, he arrived at 9.15 am, his excuse was he went back for money to cover his triple-decker breakfast sandwich!
So on to our first and second practice runs. Pauline Goodwin was in fine form – congratulations on recently celebrating her 79th birthday!
After the lunch break there was a light shower of rain. However, this did not deter Dave Snelsen who posted 60.10, a new record for this 2 lapper.
Dave broke the record that had been held by John Goodwin from 14 years ago. Asked what helped him break the record Dave said he had studied the different configuration of the circuit which helped. I think his vision of his favourite meal of scampi and chips egged him on.
The PEP result was 1st Nick Taylor, 2nd Dave Snelson and 3rd Rob Samuels.
Stuart McCabe was the days best improver lowering his best practice time by 2.48 seconds. Dave Snelson’s 488 GTB caught the eye of the Event Scrutineers who declared it to be the Best Prepared Car.
Well done everyone for staying on the black stuff.
We’ve now reached the half-way point in the 2025 season and the top-3 spots in the championship are only split by six points. Similarly, the battle for the Baracca Classic Trophy continues with Brian Jackson and Pauline Goodwin also separated by just six points.
We’ll soon enter territory where rounds will be dropped (a competitor’s best-9 rounds count at the end of the season) and this means the championship could still be up for grabs right up to the seasons conclusion back at Curborough in September… exciting! ~ Chris Leach |
